WWWRPG Part 2 - This is a Test Run

Below you’ll see a match worked out with WWWRPG. Because I’m playing a solo game, I’ll be playing all the parts, but at a standard table each part would be played by each player. The two wrestler gimmicks used here are Jobber and Hardcore, it quickly becomes apparent which is which, but here is their stats:

Grease Enchez - Jobber
Look -2 Power 0
Real -1 Work +2 Momentum  +1

Roland "Iceman" Marko - Hardcore
Look 0 Power -1
Real 1 Work -1 Momentum  +1

This exhibition match is scheduled for one fall, and introducing first, already in the ring, hailing from Little China Town, Baltimore, Maryland, weighing in at 315 pounds, Greasy Encheez!

Greasy, a staple here in the Ultimate Wrestling Association, and mainly because he owes a lot of people, a lot of money.

His opponent…

Red Wing’s Fangs blares through the arena as smoke fills the entrance way.

currently hailing from the back alleys of Miami, Florida and weighing in at 255 pounds, Roland “Iceman” Marco!

Marco walks out backwards, through the smoke as pyro goes off around him. He’s holding a chair in one hand, his hoodie is covering his face as he turns, a sick grin on his face. He runs into the ring, pushing the chair in ahead of himself.

[All of the previous stuff is character building. The players come up with it, either during character creation or on the spot. If they’re into wrestling, they’ll get a very firm grasp of what happens before the match begins.]

Iceman decides to slide into the ring and hit a diving clothesline on Encheez. A flying clothesline shows off Iceman’s technical skill, he rolls +Work (-1), getting a 8, and chooses to give Encheez control and gain +1 Momentum (now +2). Encheez decides that Iceman picks him up by the head but Encheez pulls him into the corner, head first into the turnbuckle. Encheez follows Iceman and goes for a back suplex, rolling +Work (+2), gets 7, hitting the move, but chooses to retain control and transition into the next sequence. He rolls over on top of Iceman and goes for a pin but barely gets a one count. Encheez grinds Iceman’s head into the mat, yelling at the audience, which normally is “Working the Audience” rolling +Audience (+0) but because he’s a “Jobber” he invokes his “Sympathy” Move, rolling +Work (+2), getting 14 [seriously? holy shit lol] which causes the crowd to go crazy for him, and gains +2 Momentum (now +3). Iceman, being Hardcore, invokes “ARE YOU NOT ENTERTAINED” and roles +Real (+1), 5, which is a botch, and he loses the Audience (-1 Audience - now 0), they seem to be in favor of Encheez.

Encheez, still being in control, decides to pull Iceman to his feet and whip him into the ropes, going for a back body drop as Iceman comes back off the ropes back at him, rolling +Work (+2), 11, regaining control, getting +1 Heat with Iceman. Iceman decides to use a Momentum (now +1) and retake control as Encheez reaches down to pick him back up, Iceman rolls back and kicks Encheez backwards into the ref, who takes a bump. Iceman gets to his feet, grabs Encheez by the head and throws him over the top rope, following him underneath the rope. Iceman pulls out a chair from underneath the ring and swings the chair onto Encheez’s back. He looks sideways at the ref, who is still down, then toward the crowd, rolling “Working the Audience” +Audience (+0), getting 7, the crowd pops for the chair shot and Iceman gains a Momentum (now +2). Iceman rolls Encheez back into the ring, still with the chair in his hand and climbs the to the top rope, holding the chair in his hand he jumps to land, with the chair, onto Encheez, possibly hurting himself. Normally this would be a +Real rolls, and because Iceman is Hardcore and has the option to use “THAT IS INSANE” which switches his +Real for any other stat, but because his Real is the highest, he instead uses “HIGH PAIN TOLERANCE” which gives him a +1 to Real for the remainder of the match. The top rope spot, with the chair in hand, he rolls a +Real (+2) and gets 7, allowing him to keep control and move onto the next sequence.

At the table, Creative calls for Iceman to get the win and to go ahead with the finishing sequence.

Iceman discards the chair as the referee begins to come to, but he’s still a little slow getting to his feet. Iceman goes for his finishing move, the Curb Stomp, rolls 2d6 for the finish, gets a 9, and he decides he’s getting the +1 Audience (now +1). Iceman grabs Encheez’s arms and struggles with him to pull them to his sides, back behind Encheez, in a surfboard like positioning but then Iceman raises his foot and stomps it down, slamming his foot into the back of Encheez’s head, which is slammed into the mat. He rolls him over and hooks the leg for the pin. One. Two. Three.

Red Fang’s Wires starts up “the winner of this match, Roland “Iceman” Marco!”

Fanfare, Iceman wins, the night progresses, more matches are had, and backstage politics are thrown down - I’ll get into that on my next post. As for now, this is a very quick and basic match featuring two very different gimmicks: The Jobber, being about helping the other wrestler look good - and The Hardcore, being about hurting the yourself to hurt the other guy. Some matches may be even shorter but most are going to be longer for everyone’s sake.

Creative has free control over how a match is to end. They can players at the beginning “Hey, wrestle however but Wrestler X wins” or they can, like in the example, get the feel of the match’s pace and call for the end when they feel it was the right time.

A lot more details can be used to describe each called spot, or even less, it’s up to the players and how they want to play. During a match there would also be an announcer who would take the player’s directions on what’s going on and do play by play. Something like that would have been hard to do in a blog, without being over repetitive or ending up without enough playside information.

If you’re wondering about the chair shot, why it didn’t end the match, it’s because Iceman called his spot to knock the ref down, so everything was legal until the ref was back to his feet. There is no instant replay in wrestling - unless of course it is apart of the story but that’s dumb and no one would ever do that, right? Yeah, right.

As I mentioned about, Part 3 will cover what happens when things aren’t happening in the ring: Promos, interviews and meetings with Creative - DRAMATIC CHORD!
